ON THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM
INITIATIVE PETITION 53, MONEY IS NOT DEMOCRACY
MANY VOLUNTEERS ARE SPREADING THEIR ENERGIES THIN IN THIS YEAR OF 2004
TO CAMPAIGN FOR
VARIOUS MEASURES AND POLITICAL CANDIDATES.
THIS INTENSE ACTIVITY HAS CAUSED THE NUMBER OF SIGNATURES GATHERED FOR
PETITION 53 TO BE LESS THAN THE QUOTA SET FOR THE MONTH OF MAY.
MEETING A TARGET OF 135,000 PLUS SIGNATURES BY MID JUNE WILL ALLOW THE BEST
POSSIBILITY FOR PETITION 53 TO BE PLACED ON THE NOVEMBER 2004 BALLOT.
MONEY IS NOT DEMOCRACY MEMBERS WILL CHECK AS MANY PETITIONS AS POSSIBLE.
The OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE WILL DO A SAMPLING OF THE SIGNATURES
TURNED IN BY JULY 2. INVALID SIGNATURES WILL MEAN PENALTIES SUCH AS
400 SIGNATURES DEDUCTED FOR EVERY ONE SET OF DUPLICATE SIGNATURES.
A TALLY OF 108,480 VALID SIGNATURES WILL MEAN THAT
IT HAS SUCCESSFULLY MET THE REQUIREMENTS!
DO YOU REMEMBER ? :
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM PASSED IN 1994 WITH OVER 70% VOTER APPROVAL.
IT IS A RELIABLE INDICATOR THAT
MONEY IS NOT DEMOCRACY WILL PASS AGAIN
IF PLACED ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.
WITH VOTER APPROVAL THIS TIME IT CANNOT BE TOSSED OUT AS IN 1994.
